Sensory Friendly Films at AMC Theatres

This weekend, our whole family is going to see the Muppets movie – but not at your average screening. We’re going to a special screening put on by Sensory Friendly Films at AMC Theaters.

From their website:

AMC Theatres (AMC) and the Autism Society have teamed up to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis with the “Sensory Friendly Films” program.

What an outstanding idea! And kudos to AMC Theatres for stepping up and supporting children with disabilities.

Steven D. Greydanus has posted a positive review of the film, and it sounds family friendly.

If you know of families with children that have special needs, please consider sharing information about Sensory Friendly Films with them.

My stay-at-home Autumn vacation

Brown leaves

Took some time off this week and had a good vacation. Restful – in a productive sort of way.

For posterity, here’s how it went down.

Yard work

Finished raking and mulching the last batch of leaves. (I’m always amazed at how many there are.)  I spread some fertilizer, then put the mower and spreader into the shed.

Pulled out the snow blower, put in some gas and fired it up. Heard it might snow tomorrow.

I also cleaned out the gutters with the leaf blower – without breaking my neck. Thanks Guardian Angel!

Family

We had an ‘OOPS’ card from a local pizzeria for a free meal, so I had lunch with my wife and daughter on Monday. I won’t name the establishment (I’m still a bit miffed at them), but they have a neat model train that goes along the walls – our little girl loved that.

I also helped the boys get ready for school in the morning.

Miscellaneous

Moved a picture of The Sacred Heart of Jesus to a new spot, directly above my computer monitor. Not sure why I didn’t do that sooner.

I didn’t get to filing paperwork and bills, but there’ll be time for that later.

Music

My goal was to get some serious study time in this week – and I believe I succeeded. My studies included:

  • Solfege
  • Video lessons for guitar
  • Sight reading
  • Chord progressions
  • Scales
  • Theory – general and compositional
  • Ear training for intervals

Autumn is winding down

With Thanksgiving coming up next, things will turn hectic during the Holiday season. This turned out to be a terrific week for getting things done around the house.

How about you? Do you have some late-Fall activities you enjoy?
