Silent retreat at Demontreville Jesuit Retreat Center

I joined 70 other men this past weekend for a silent retreat with the Jesuits. It was the 3000th retreat held there since they opened the doors in 1948. Wow!

This was my tenth retreat, and it was unseasonably warm for the first week in January.

Men, if the busy-ness of life is wearing you down, and you need to recharge – you should consider making a retreat. I guarantee you won’t regret it. (Non-Catholics are welcome!)

Here’s a video I made with photos taken at the retreat along with Gregorian chant – useful for reflection.

Old-school apologetics with the “Catholic Verse Finder”

Catholic Verse Finder

Ready for some lo-fi, old-school evangelization? Here’s a link to a handy little apologetics tool, called the Catholic Verse Finder.

It’s a Bible cheat sheet, printed on both sides of a laminated 81/2″ x 11″ handout. It contains scriptural readings for over 50 Catholic teachings; in particular, ones that many non-Catholics object to, such as the ‘Communion of Saints’ and ‘Purgatory’.

The text is pretty small, but considering there are more than 500 Scripture references, it’s understandable – and not impossible to read.

It’s a great teaching tool for Catechism teachers, and a perfect gift for your friend who’s into door-to-door evangelism.

Best of all, if you ever find yourself cornered by an aggressive non-Catholic, looking to convert you away from the Faith, pull this out along with your 72-book Catholic Bible and warn them – smiling of course – that you’re ready to begin.
